CGHS-Central Government Health Scheme, this scheme was launched in India in 1954 under the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare act, during the same year or in the upcoming years the scheme got extended to 17 cities all over India including Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Chennai, West Bengal, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Kanpur, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram.
The main objective CGHS-Central Government Health Scheme was to reduce the private prices of Healthcare to nearly 10% of the actual amount secondly it has been used to create awareness about overall well-being and the need for good health thirdly the government decided to promote their scheme in urban hospitals and healthcare centers and health insurance was provided by the government to put forth the general demand for Healthcare. Last but not least the scheme is used to prevent and control local endemic diseases like fever dengue etc. The scheme also aims to provide immunization services and manage or control diseases and injuries. The scheme has been of utmost importance to the people since as per recent statistics nearly 25 lakh people have benefited from this health care scheme
The programs are aimed to increase the overall standard of people’s health since they are the most valuable resource in any country. The scheme has also shown a prominent decrease in the incidence of diseases and death due to illnesses in India.
What are the eligibility criteria for CGHS?
CGHS eligibility for any employee who?
- Acquires wages from the central civil estimates or beneficiaries of the family members who received wages from Central civil estimates
- Dependents of the families of people or employees who reside in the areas which are covered under the Central Government Health Scheme
- Pensioners of the central government Parliament
- Parliament members, former Vice Presidents and Lieutenant governors current or retired judges of the supreme court and high court
- Post and Telegraph department employees
- Delhi police personnel
- Freedom fighters
- Press information and bureau journalists
- Railway Board employees
What facilities are being offered under CGHS?
These days the following facilities are being offered under CGHS which include
- OPD treatment and medication cost
- Consultation at the Government or Polyclinic hospitals
- Indoor treatment at government or CGHS impaneled hospitals
- Investigations at government or CGHS impaneled Hospital
- Cashless facilities are also impaneled in the CGHS hospitals and diagnostic centers
- For the ones who are receiving pensions or reimbursement for treatment purchases of products like artificial Limbs, appliances and hearing aids, etc.
- Maternity services and Child Health Services are also included and the CDA test facility.
- Also medical consultation and dispensing facilities for Ayush are also covered
What are the different types of Medical Systems covered under CGHS?
The following Medical Systems are covered under CGHS which include
- Indian system of medicine
- Unani
- Siddha
- Homeopathic
- Ayurveda
- Allopathic yoga
Keeping in mind and seeing that Physiotherapy has become a major part of people these days government has also included Physiotherapy under the CGHS scheme but this service can only be availed in the OPD or IPD facility available in the CGHS impaneled hospitals we currently have many hospitals in the panel for CGHS and provide Physiotherapy services to people who have CGHS cards claiming that physiotherapy under CGHS impaneled is available in Dr Nasir Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.
