Paraffin Wax Bath treatment, Paraffin wax bath therapy is an application of applying molten paraffin wax over the body parts. A paraffin bath contains a mixture of wax and mineral oil in a ratio of seven parts wax to one part oil (7:1). Melted paraffin is kept at a constant temperature of 47.8°C to 52.2°C for upper extremity treatments. Temperatures for treatments given to the lower extremities are decreased from 45.0°C to 49.4°C because the circulation is less efficient.

Paraffin is a superficial heating agent used for delivering heat to small, irregularly shaped areas such as the hand, fingers, wrist, and foot.

The vertebrae are made up of 2 segments: the body and the vertebral arch. The arch is formed by a pair of lamina and pedicle, the area between the lamina and pedicle is called pars interarticularis and it is one of the weakest parts of the vertebral arch. Techniques of application

  3. Dipping method – In this method the body part to be treated is directly immersed into the paraffin wax unit and taken out. Once the wax solidifies, the part is again immersed and the process is repeated until several layers of wax are coated.
  4. Toweling method – In this method is immersed in molten paraffin wax and then wrapped around the body part.
