The Role of Physiotherapy in COVID-19 Patients
Role of physiotherapy in covid -19 patients. I’m seeing covid – 19 patients since the last December.
-
It made me believe that if a physiotherapist gives his or her 100% and the right techniques are applied with proper management, this will drastically improve the patient’s condition.
-
Firstly, patients should understand the importance of physiotherapy. Over time, other medical departments have also come to realize this.
-
Physiotherapy is very necessary for COVID-19 patients.
Additionally, doctors are often surprised by the improved oxygen saturation resulting from physiotherapy treatment.
-
After every session, the patient’s oxygen saturation will rise. It makes me feel wonderful to be able to help patients suffering during this pandemic.
-
Patients with COVID-19 are dying due to reduced lung capacity and not being able to breathe properly.
As physiotherapists, we help patients by encouraging them to do deep breathing exercises, segmental breathing exercises, and other exercises every two hours, which can help improve their lung functioning and increase their reduced lung capacity.
-
Medisizer/Spirometry: In this, we teach patients how to use spirometry to increase their lung capacity.
-
It is the most effective way to enhance lung capacity. Side Prone is also helpful for a few patients who are not comfortable in a prone position.
Ask the patient which side he or she is comfortable on. If the saturation rises to 80 on any side, make the patient stay in that position for a while.
-
This position also helps them prevent further problems, such as bed sores and patches. Pruning, as per the treatment guidelines and for patient comfort, requires the patient to be in a prone position, but it should not be overdone.
-
Pruning is the process of gently and safely turning a patient onto their stomach.
-
Mental support is also important, as the disease can take a toll on the patient’s mental state due to the period of isolation.
We can help the patient by talking and making him or her believe that they will soon be the way they were. This will boost the patient’s morale and their ability to fight the disease. Discussing things with the patient also helps them to overcome their fears, At DNPR
