Quick answer
A general physician is the right first stop for symptoms without an obvious cause, for managing long-term conditions like diabetes and hypertension, and for deciding which specialist you actually need. They are usually the fastest route to the right referral.
A general physician is the doctor to see when you do not know which doctor to see. They manage long-term conditions, investigate symptoms that do not point anywhere obvious, and — the part patients undervalue — decide which specialist is worth your time.
When to see one
- Symptoms with no obvious cause, or several at once
- Managing diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid or cholesterol
- Fever, infection, or feeling unwell without a clear reason
- Unexplained weight loss, fatigue or night sweats
- Before starting new treatment, if you take several medications
- When you do not know which specialist you need
How physiotherapy fits
Physiotherapy and general medicine overlap more than people assume. Widespread joint pain can be inflammatory rather than mechanical. Persistent fatigue changes what a rehabilitation programme can reasonably ask of you. Diabetes roughly doubles the risk of frozen shoulder and lengthens its course.
If an assessment suggests your problem is medical rather than mechanical, we will say so and tell you what to ask for. Sending someone away is a normal part of doing this properly.
Where to see one
Our physiotherapy units run inside multi-speciality hospitals and nursing homes across West and South West Delhi — in Vikaspuri, Janakpuri, Uttam Nagar, Najafgarh and Dwarka — most of which run consultant clinics in this speciality. If you are already under our care, ask your therapist and we will tell you who holds a clinic at the centre you attend and how to get an appointment.
We are a physiotherapy and rehabilitation practice. We do not employ these consultants and we take no fee for pointing you at one; we work alongside them because most of our patients need both.
Need the physiotherapy side?
