Physiotherapy and CGHS

What CGHS covers for physiotherapy, how referral works, and what to check before you book anywhere in Delhi.

Quick answer

Physiotherapy under CGHS is normally accessed through a CGHS Wellness Centre, which refers a beneficiary on to an empanelled facility. Standalone physiotherapy clinics are rarely empanelled, so treatment usually takes place at a hospital that holds the empanelment. Dr Nasir Physiotherapy runs physiotherapy units across West and South West Delhi; whether a scheme applies at a particular centre depends on that centre, and we confirm it before treatment starts.

Who CGHS covers

CGHS covers serving and retired central government employees, their dependants, and a number of other categories including sitting and former Members of Parliament and certain pensioners of autonomous bodies. Eligibility is tied to the cardholder, and dependants are treated on the same card.

Why your usual physiotherapy clinic probably is not empanelled

Empanelment is granted to a facility, not to a profession. Hospitals apply for it, meet the criteria and hold it at a specific address. Most physiotherapy in Delhi is delivered by small independent clinics that have never applied, which is why a CGHS beneficiary searching for a physiotherapist finds plenty of clinics and almost no empanelled ones. Physiotherapy under the scheme is therefore usually delivered inside a hospital that holds the empanelment, by whoever provides physiotherapy there.

How access usually works

The route normally begins at your CGHS Wellness Centre rather than at the hospital. The medical officer there assesses you and, where specialist treatment is needed, issues a referral. That referral is what an empanelled facility works from. Going directly to a hospital without one is the single commonest reason a beneficiary is asked to pay and claim later. Rules differ between serving employees and pensioners, and they change, so confirm the current position with your Wellness Centre.

What to have with you

Your CGHS card, the referral or permission from your Wellness Centre, and any imaging or reports relating to the problem. If a course of treatment is expected to run over several weeks, ask at the point of referral how many sessions the referral covers and what happens when it runs out.

How a CGHS patient actually reaches the physiotherapy room

In practice the route runs through the hospital rather than through the physiotherapy unit. A beneficiary arrives either because a doctor at that hospital has referred them internally, or carrying a referral from their Wellness Centre which the reception desk processes on arrival. Either way the hospital sets the cover up first, and the physiotherapist is told that a scheme patient is coming. The practical consequence is worth knowing: booking a physiotherapy appointment directly, online or by phone, books you as a private patient. If you intend to use CGHS, start at the hospital desk.

Where we fit

Our physiotherapy units sit inside hospitals, and any empanelment belongs to the hospital rather than to us. That means the answer differs by centre, and it is not something to guess at from a website. Tell us which scheme you hold and where you are, and we will find out and tell you before anything starts.

We work in Janakpuri and Vikaspuri.

Check what your CGHS cover means here

Scheme treatment is arranged through the hospital desk, not by booking a session — so leave your details rather than booking, and we will tell you where to start and what your cover is likely to mean. No payment, nothing to cancel.

We send a short code on WhatsApp to check the number is yours. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged.

Common questions about CGHS

Is physiotherapy covered under CGHS?
Physiotherapy is available to CGHS beneficiaries, normally on referral from a CGHS Wellness Centre and at a facility empanelled for it. What is covered, and whether you pay and claim or are treated cashless, depends on your category and the current scheme rules, so check with your Wellness Centre.
Can I go straight to a physiotherapy clinic with my CGHS card?
Usually not. Most standalone physiotherapy clinics are not empanelled, and without a referral from your Wellness Centre even an empanelled facility will generally treat you as a private patient.
How many physiotherapy sessions does CGHS allow?
That is set by the referral rather than by the clinic, and it varies with the condition. Ask at the point of referral how many sessions it covers, and what to do if your therapist recommends more.
Does Dr Nasir Physiotherapy accept CGHS?
Our centres sit inside hospitals, and the empanelment belongs to the hospital rather than to us. Whether your scheme applies at the centre nearest you depends on that centre. Tell us which Wellness Centre referred you and where you are, and we will confirm the position before anything starts.
