Physiotherapy and ESIC
How ESIC works for physiotherapy, who is insured, and the dispensary route to treatment.
Quick answer
ESIC covers insured workers earning under the wage ceiling and their families, and access normally begins at the ESI dispensary or insurance medical practitioner you are attached to. Physiotherapy is provided at ESIC hospitals themselves where available, and otherwise through referral to a tie-up facility. Dr Nasir Physiotherapy treats patients at units across West and South West Delhi and can tell you the position at a given centre before you begin.
Who ESIC covers
ESIC covers employees earning under the prescribed wage ceiling in establishments the Act applies to, together with their families. Unlike the government employee schemes, entitlement follows employment and contributions rather than a service record, so it can start and stop with a job.
Where physiotherapy usually happens
ESIC runs its own hospitals and dispensaries, and the larger hospitals have physiotherapy departments. For many insured persons the answer is therefore inside the ESIC system rather than outside it. Referral to a tie-up facility is the route where the ESIC hospital cannot provide what is needed, or where distance makes it impractical.
What tends to go wrong
Two things. The first is assuming that any hospital will accept ESIC — tie-ups are specific and change. The second is an employment gap: because cover follows contributions, a beneficiary who has recently changed or lost a job may find entitlement is not what they expect. Both are worth checking before a course of treatment rather than during it.
What to have with you
Your ESIC card or insurance number, the referral if you have been given one, and any imaging or reports relating to the problem. If the physiotherapy follows a workplace injury, bring whatever documentation exists about the accident — it affects how the claim is handled.
Who arranges it, and who does not
The arrangement is made by the hospital, not by the physiotherapy unit inside it. An insured person is either referred internally by a doctor at that hospital, or arrives with a referral that the reception desk handles on the day. The physiotherapy team learns about the entitlement from the hospital rather than from the patient. So if you intend to use ESIC, the desk is the first stop; a physiotherapy appointment booked directly is a private appointment, whatever your card says.
Where we fit
Our physiotherapy units sit inside hospitals, and any empanelment belongs to the hospital rather than to us. That means the answer differs by centre, and it is not something to guess at from a website. Tell us which scheme you hold and where you are, and we will find out and tell you before anything starts.
We work in Janakpuri and Vikaspuri.
Check what your ESIC cover means here
Scheme treatment is arranged through the hospital desk, not by booking a session — so leave your details rather than booking, and we will tell you where to start and what your cover is likely to mean. No payment, nothing to cancel.
We send a short code on WhatsApp to check the number is yours. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged.
Last checked October 2026. Scheme rules change, and this page describes how ESIC generally works rather than your own entitlement. The authority is the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation — esic.gov.in is where the current position is published.
